Streculia parviflora
Family: Malvaceae
Sterculia is taken from “Sterculius” (the god of manure) of Roman mythology. This is referring to the unpleasant aroma of the flowers of this genus. It is locally known as kelumpang burung because the birds love to eat its fruit. It is native to Southeast Asia, where it grows in lowland and hill forests. The tree can reach heights of up to 35 meters and has a straight, cylindrical trunk with greyish to pinkish bark.
