Also known as Rain Tree, is a tree, up 30 m tall. It is widely cultivated in Southeast Asia, for its iconic umbrella-shaped crown which provides plenty of shade. Wide-spreading - up to 80m across for mature specimens in open spaces.
Originated from South America and was brought into the Malay Peninsular in 1876. This species has been introduced for urban planting since early 1900s and until now it is still commonly planted in urban areas especially along roadsides and highways.
